Giving Feedback. |
1st year teachers may struggle in the classroom. It is the duty of the TEAM to notice and correct each 1st year’s unique difficulties. You play a central role in providing them with useful, constructive feedback.
I. General StyleThe feedback session should go as follows:
|
II. When Facing ResistanceThere will be times when first-years reach a point of cognitive overload, and they will start to become numb to feedback. This is particularly concerning if the first-year is not making improvements. To deal with this, make sure you are giving them specific things you want to see in their next lesson. If they fail to implement the feedback, let the MTC administration know, and we will trouble-shoot potential solutions.
|
III. Judicious Amount of AdviceSummer training lasts seven weeks, which is a sufficient time to address problems one-by-one. The TEAM should synthesize this information into 2 or 3 general recommendations for improvement at a time. These recommendations should be clearly written and conveyed. The feedback must be designed so that the 1st-year is given manageable, incremental, and attainable goals for improvement.
Remember to link one evaluation thematically with another. If the TEAM teacher gave 3 recommendations to a 1st-year, the next evaluation should make mention of whether those recommendations were implemented. |
IV. Constant ImprovementBoth first and second-year teachers should be showing constant improvement. If a participant is not showing improvement, this is cause for concern. Please bring any related issues to the attention of the MTC administration.
